Jack White’s status and reputation among the monster of rock has given him the audacity to do as he pleases and many will either love him or hate him for it. The man’s musical abilities are not to be doubted and his personal tastes and repertoire are vast and varied. You’ll hear the whole range in Boarding House Reach.

Whether you want to or not - the variety of styles and genres touched on from Hip Hop to Jazz Funk was a risky move that we think paid off for the White Stripes frontman. There’s a subtle introduction of synths which is a step away from JW’s usual stripped down sound. The Studio musicians who collaborated are session musicians for artists such as Beyonce and Kanye West and it’s clear that’s had an influence on the creation of this album.

‘Corporation’ is a tune that fits the bill along with ‘Over and Over and Over’ that has a thumping riff, that as the title suggests, keeps pumping over and over throughout! The song structure of this one resembles a classic from one of Jack’s bands but with so many more elements thrown in.

'The man’s clearly a genius and will always have a place in our playlist'

The man’s clearly a genius and will always have a place in our playlist but don’t expect the simplicity he served up ten years ago, his style has developed and grown into something far more mature and intelligent - something that we think is well worth the air time. There’s no coherence on this album but for some reason we love it. So many musical styles seamed together as if he’s turned into a mad genius.
